Our class had a very productive day. We began the day reviewing factorization and prime and composite. The schedule changed a little and on Thursdays we will have specials in the morning then a brief math period afterwards. Students reviewed how to use reference materials and played a game on the smart board, then we reviewed our spelling and vocabulary on quizlet. For science we answered some comprehension questions and reviewed the outline. Finally in reading, we analyzed the four main characters and described their physical attributes and personalities.

Students worked hard today to finish up MAP testing. We read chapters 3 and 4 in How To Eat Fried Worms and learned about kinds of reference materials and how to use them. Students also filled out their first "Student Gradebook" which is a list of current grades that goes home in T/Th folders. Make sure parents sign it and it is returned by Thursday. Remember also Spelling Pretest tomorrow! Use quizlet to study. If you haven't joined our class yet, use the link below. Students began our novels groups this week. We are reading "How to Eat Fried Worms". We have copies of the book in class, but it is advised that students purchase their own copy for use at home. Students will keep all notes and work in their 5-star Literacy notebook. Each student has a reading group job (word wizard, summarizer, illustrator or connector) and are responsible for completing group work after a selected in class reading.
Students started a science lab investigating electromagnets. We attached metal wire to a iron nail and battery and tested how electric currents can created magnetic fields. Students also learned how to implement the revising and editing process in writing through peer review. They selected one of their folktales and met with a classmate and, using proofreading marks, revised and edited the paper. Students began sharing their cell projects. I am so impressed with the work they have did! Spelling began this week and the pretest is tomorrow. Novels groups will start this week, make sure to check here for what book we will be reading. Students had an awesome day today! They earned two mega shields! Congratulate them on their hard work. We learned about fables in language and began writing our own. In math we took an assessment on prime and composite numbers and divisibility rules. In science we learned about organ systems and what they are made of and viruses and how they work. Today was pretty packed with work. In math, we worked more with prime and composite numbers and factorization. In reading, we learned about "legends and heroes" and analyzed some stories and videos to understand characterization in those types of folklore. In writing, we began to write our own legendary story using a story organizer. In science we learned about microorganisms, their role in the environment, and different types. Make sure to be working a bit everyday on the cell project.
Our class had a great day today! We took a pre-assessment in Math to understand what we do and do not know for unit 1. We then shared our About Me projects and read a story about memories and family. Students then had free writing time. We had our first class meeting and talked about what bullying looks like and set the rules for our future meetings. At the end of the day, students earned reward time so we had a little dance party!
